How to make a Roblox tycoon
A tycoon gives each player their own plot and a machine that makes money while they watch. Every button they buy adds to it, so the base itself is the reward. People stay to see what the next button builds.
What it needs
Players claim a plot, buy droppers that make money, then spend it on buttons that build their base up.
- A plot for each player. Claimed at the door, freed when they leave.
- Droppers and a collector. Parts that drop, and a pad that turns them into cash.
- Buy buttons. Each one builds something you can see, and shows what's next.
- Saved progress. Rebuilding from nothing each visit is why tycoons get left.
1Start on a map
You need room for every player's plot, and something good to look at around it. A finished map means your first weeks go into the game itself. Open it in Roblox Studio with File, then Open from File. Here's how, and there are free maps too.

2Add the scripts
These are free to copy and paste, each with where it goes:
- Roblox leaderboard scriptCash beside each player's name.
- Roblox save data scriptA starting point for saving what they've earned.
- Roblox game pass scriptDouble money or a faster dropper, for those who want it.
- Roblox tycoon dropper scriptThe heart of it: claim a plot, drop parts, collect coins.
For what's particular to your game, ask the script generator. Press one of these to start from it:
- A dropper that makes a part every 2 seconds, and a collector that turns each part into cash for the plot's owner
- A button on a plot that buys the next upgrade if its owner has enough cash, then disappears
- A plot system where a player claims an empty plot when they touch its door, and it's freed when they leave
3Make it feel right
- Lay out all the buttons before you build anything, so a player can always see the next one from the last.
- Keep dropped parts few and short-lived. Hundreds of loose parts will slow every player's game down.
- Make the first button take seconds and the tenth take minutes.
What goes wrong most often
- Unanchored parts everywhere: the server gets slower with every player.
- No reason to come back once the base is finished. Plan a rebirth or a second floor.
4Test it and publish
- Press F5 to try it alone. To run several players at once, pick Server & Clients in the test menu and press Play. Then invite up to 10 friends to preview it, without any help from you.
- Got a model or a script from somewhere else? Run it through the free backdoor scanner first. Hidden code can take over your game.
- Choose File, then Publish. You'll need an icon and a thumbnail. It stays private until you release it, and releasing it takes an age check: here's how publishing works now.
5Earn from it
You keep 70% of the Robux players spend in your game. Start with one game pass or developer product. The tax calculator works out what to charge, and the DevEx calculator what it's worth in dollars.
Questions
What's the hardest part of a tycoon?
Saving: remembering which buttons each player bought and rebuilding them when they return. Save a list of bought buttons, not the parts themselves.
How many plots should a server have?
One per player, so the map's plots set your server size. Six to eight is a common start.
How do tycoons make money?
Passes such as double money, and products that give cash right away. You keep 70% of the Robux spent in your game.
