How to make a Roblox fighting game
A fighting game lives on how a hit feels and whether the fight was fair. Keep it small: one arena, a few moves, and hits the server decides. Then spend your time on the sound and animation that make a hit land.
What it needs
Players pick a fighter or a weapon, battle in short rounds, win something and go again.
- An arena. Room to move, with a little cover and a clear edge.
- Moves with cooldowns. Three good moves beat ten. Cooldowns are what make choosing matter.
- Hits the server decides. If the player's device decides who got hit, cheaters will too.
- Short rounds. Lose in a minute and you'll want one more go.
1Start on a map
Arenas with room to move, a little cover and a clear edge. The place decides how a fight plays. A finished map means your first weeks go into the game itself. Open it in Roblox Studio with File, then Open from File. Here's how, and there are free maps too.

2Add the scripts
These are free to copy and paste, each with where it goes:
- Roblox round system scriptIntermission, the fight, and back to the lobby.
- Roblox tool giver scriptA weapon to pick up: touch a part to get it.
- Roblox leaderboard scriptWins beside each player's name.
- Roblox sprint scriptA way to close the gap, or get out of one.
For what's particular to your game, ask the script generator. Press one of these to start from it:
3Make it feel right
- Add sound and a small screen shake before more moves: they make a hit feel like a hit.
- Show every cooldown on screen. A move that silently doesn't work feels broken.
- Test with real lag. Ask a friend far away to fight you, because players never all have a good connection.
What goes wrong most often
- Trusting the client about damage. It's the first thing cheaters change.
- One move that beats everything. Everyone will use it, and the game gets boring.
4Test it and publish
- Press F5 to try it alone. To run several players at once, pick Server & Clients in the test menu and press Play. Then invite up to 10 friends to preview it, without any help from you.
- Got a model or a script from somewhere else? Run it through the free backdoor scanner first. Hidden code can take over your game.
- Choose File, then Publish. You'll need an icon and a thumbnail. It stays private until you release it, and releasing it takes an age check: here's how publishing works now.
5Earn from it
You keep 70% of the Robux players spend in your game. Start with one game pass or developer product. The tax calculator works out what to charge, and the DevEx calculator what it's worth in dollars.
Questions
Do I need animations?
Good ones help a lot. You can make your own with Studio's Animation Editor, or start with animations made by other creators.
How do I check a hit fairly?
Let the player's device say it swung, then have the server check the cooldown, the distance and the direction before it does any damage.
How do fighting games make money?
Cosmetics and passes for new fighters or looks. Selling power makes a fighting game unfair, and players notice. You keep 70% of the Robux spent in your game.
