How to make a Roblox adventure game
An adventure game runs on curiosity: what's over that hill, and what's behind that door. It needs a world with places worth reaching and a reason to reach them. A good map carries a lot of it, and a few quests carry the rest.
What it needs
Players explore a world, talk to characters, take on quests and find what's hidden, with new places opening as they go.
- A world worth exploring. Places you can see from far away and want to reach.
- Quests. Go there, find this, bring it back. A few good ones go a long way.
- Characters. Someone to talk to makes a place feel lived in.
- Secrets. A hidden cave or a chest off the path, for those who look.
1Start on a map
Villages, castles and forests with places to discover. People keep walking to see what's over the next hill. A finished map means your first weeks go into the game itself. Open it in Roblox Studio with File, then Open from File. Here's how, and there are free maps too.

2Add the scripts
These are free to copy and paste, each with where it goes:
- Roblox NPC dialogue scriptA character who talks, and can point the way.
- Roblox tool giver scriptA sword or a torch to find along the way.
- Roblox teleport scriptA cave entrance or a path to the next area.
- Roblox save data scriptRemember how far they've got: an adventure needs this.

3Make it feel right
- Put something tall in every area: players walk towards what they can see.
- Lead with sight lines and light. A lit path says "go this way" without any arrows.
- Write less than you think. Two short lines from a character beats a page nobody reads.
What goes wrong most often
- A big empty world. Fill a small one first.
- Quests that only ever send players back and forth.
4Test it and publish
- Press F5 to try it alone. To run several players at once, pick Server & Clients in the test menu and press Play. Then invite up to 10 friends to preview it, without any help from you.
- Got a model or a script from somewhere else? Run it through the free backdoor scanner first. Hidden code can take over your game.
- Choose File, then Publish. You'll need an icon and a thumbnail. It stays private until you release it, and releasing it takes an age check: here's how publishing works now.
5Earn from it
You keep 70% of the Robux players spend in your game. Start with one game pass or developer product. The tax calculator works out what to charge, and the DevEx calculator what it's worth in dollars.
Questions
How big should the world be?
Smaller than you think. A place a player can cross in two minutes, full of things to find, feels bigger than a huge empty one.
How do I save a player's quests?
Save a list of finished quests and found secrets with a DataStore, the way the saving script saves coins.
How do adventure games make money?
Passes for extra areas or companions, and cosmetics. You keep 70% of the Robux spent in your game.
