Publishing and releasing are two steps
Publishing saves your game to your Roblox account. Only you and people you've given Edit access can open it. Releasing it is what lets players in, and that's what has changed: Roblox now asks for an age check first, and your answers decide who can play.
A lot of videos still show the old steps. This guide follows Roblox's Creator Hub docs as of November 2026. Rules change, and the Publish window always has the current ones.
Publish it for the first time
Open your game in Studio
A map you opened from a file works too: here's how.
Choose File, then Publish
File, then Publish (Alt+P on Windows). The Game details window opens.
Fill in the details
Upload an icon and a thumbnail (the sizes, and a free resizer), then add a name, a genre and a description.
Save it
Click Save. Your game is on your account now, and still private.
Let friends try it first
You can invite up to 10 friends of a similar age to preview your game before you release it. They see a watermark saying it's a preview. Watching someone play for ten minutes teaches you more than anything else you can do at this point.
To invite them, choose File, then Publish, and click Invite.
Release it
Do the age check
It's by face or government ID, and your account has to be in good standing and at least 2 days old.
Choose File, then Publish
The Publish window opens. Click Continue.
Answer the first question
Roblox asks whether your game has age-restricted content. Answer honestly.
Click Publish
Your game is out, and it gets a label from your answers.
- If you answer No: your game gets the Content May Vary label and goes to age-checked players 16 and over.
- If you answer Yes: you fill in the whole questionnaire, and it goes to age-checked players 16 and over or age-verified players 18 and over, depending on what's in it.
These rules apply each time you release: a new version, Publish As, or a change to who can play. You can release up to 5 new games a day.

Reaching players under 16
To release to all ages you need one of these, on top of the rest of the table:
- Roblox Plus or Premium: an active subscription for 2 months in a row.
- A 1,000 Robux publishing fee: once per game. You get it back if your game keeps 25 highly engaged players for 60 days without being moderated. If it's taken down in that time, you don't.
- A 50,000 Robux expedited review: for a launch on a set date. You can ask for it back after 90 days, if your game is in good standing with 25 highly engaged players.
Under 18, verification is by facial age estimation. At 18 or over, it's by government ID.
After it's out
Check your icon and thumbnail on a phone, where most players will see them first. When you're ready to earn from it, here's how to make a game pass, and the tax calculator works out what to charge.
Questions
Why can't players under 16 find my Roblox game?
A game with the Content May Vary label only reaches age-checked players 16 and over. To reach younger players, fill in the whole questionnaire and meet the all-ages requirements.
What does Content May Vary mean?
It's the label your game gets if you answer No to the age-restricted content question and don't fill in the rest of the questionnaire. You can fill it in later on the Creator Hub.
Does it cost anything to publish a Roblox game?
Publishing and releasing to players 16 and over is free. Reaching all ages takes Roblox Plus or Premium for 2 months in a row, or a refundable fee of 1,000 Robux.
Do I have to show my ID?
You need an age check, by face or by government ID. To release to all ages, verification is by facial age estimation if you're under 18, and by government ID if you're 18 or over.
Can I publish a Roblox game from a phone?
No. Publishing happens in Roblox Studio, which runs on Windows and Mac.
